Cinnamon Canary Breeding

Canary feathers have teo color pigments which are brown adn black pigment. These pigments can be over white or yellow graund which is base colors of feathers. If there is not black pigmnetation, our bird color is cinnamon which means the brown pignemtation over yellow graund or fawn which means the brown pignemtation over white graund.

 

 

Brown+black pigmentation on yellow graund= green variegation

Brown pigmentation on yellow graund = cinnamon variegation

Brown+black pigmentation on white graund = blue variegation

Brown pigmentation on white graund = faw variegation

 

Canary Cinnamon Color Formation

If we can understand the genetic transfer of cinnamon factor to other lineages, we can breed the cinnamon factor easly. I’ll try to explain these genetic transfer

Nestling gets just one gene from the nestling’s father and just one gene from the nestling’s mom. Combination of these genes which are difference from each other produces the oosperm. The gene of nestling condition is given by mother or father to nestlin, these gene is not given together by parents to nestling.

If we research in term of gender, Cock birds have two X chromosome, one of the X chromosome is given by father bird and other X chromosome is given by mother bird to cock nestling. In other hand, Hen birds have one  X chromosome and one Y chromosome, X chromosome is always given by father to hen canary and Y chromosome is always given by mother to hen canary.

If two X chromosome of cock nestling is same, nestlings will be green or cinnamon which are called as real green and real cinnamon. If one of the X chromosomes which comes from parents is different, all of seeing green nestlings are cinnamon carrier.

But hens are different than cock. Hens have the one X and one Y chromosome. Father of hens can give the X choromose to hen canary but mother of hens can not give the X chromosome to hen nestling. If you research the detail in above table, young hens have the XY chromosome and X chromosome can given by father canary to hen nestling, because father canary has not the Y chromosome and youns hens must have XY chromosome to be hen.

Hens can not be cinnamon carriers as genetic.

So chromosomes affect to determine the gender of canaries. As you know, cock nestlings (XX) get the one X chromosome from father and one X chromosome from morher. So, hen nestlings (XY) get the one X chromosome from father and one Y chromosome from morher. The gender of nestling occurs with mother’s gen which is given by mother to nestling, there is not any effect of father about gender of nestling.

Cinnamon is recessive factor. Cinnamon factor move to other lineage by using X chromosome. Thus cinnamon factor depends to gene.

Possible Pairing Results of Green Cock and Other Hens

 

We never can breed cinnamon nestling if we use the normal cock. Features of hen are not important to breed the cinnamon canary. To breed cinnamon canary, we have not pair normal cock with hens. So, if we do not use the cock nestling of cinnamon hen, then cinnamon factor disappears in coop.

If we pair cinnamon canaries with each other, nestlings will be cinnamon and these nestlings can be hen or cock. In other hand, if cinnamon coc canary pairs with normal hen canary, as a result nestlings can be green and cinnamon. In these pairing, cinnamon nestlings will be hen and cinnamon carrier green nestlings will be cock. We can guess the gane of nestlings by using this method.

In these above examle, cinnamon carrier cock is paired with normal and cinnamon hens bu us. When we research the this pairing of cinnamon carried cock and normal hen, we can see cinnamon nestling which are hen but nestlings will not be cinnamon cock.
